Quarteto Tágide

Throughout the 20th century, the string quartet transformed itself and reflected the plurality of currents, thoughts and events that marked these years. In this concert, we propose a chronological approach to three unavoidable names in the Western musical tradition of the 20th century. Maurice Ravel's Quartet in F presents a textural and rhythmic language that is as complex as it is elegant, exploring the timbral possibilities of the ensemble. In Langsamer Satz, Anton Webern still reflects the German romantic heritage of composers such as Brahms and Mahler, resulting in a very expressive, introspective movement. Dmitri Shostakovich's Quartet n.º 8, on the other hand, takes on an autobiographical tone, built around the DSCH motif, evoking tension and instability and also reflecting what the composer experienced and his need to pass it on to his work. These three quartets offer a glimpse of the work for string quartet in the 20th century, while also celebrating the ephemeris of Ravel and Shostakovich.
