Officium Ensemble
The splendour of the Renaissance
It was in 1528, almost 500 years ago, that the creation of the Évora Cathedral Music School marked the beginning of one of the most extraordinary periods in the history of Portuguese music, and is the central axis from which the overwhelming majority of the composers chosen for this programme come. Amongst them, Lopes Morago stands out, and several of his unpublished works will be heard in their world premiere, which were recently recorded by the Officium Ensemble - thus sharing with the public a hidden treasure of the Portuguese Renaissance. Along with other iconic works of Portuguese polyphony - including several works for double choir - the programme also marks the 500th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest geniuses of Renaissance music: Palestrina. An unforgettable concert programme full of exciting works from this golden period in the history of European music.
