Times change... the word remains.
How universal, in time and geography, is the sensibility we have for an Ave Maria, or even the artistic meaning of a simple word like Alleluia?
How did composers of different styles and from very different eras understand the same texts of the liturgy?
In this conference, taking as an example the concert programme The word through the ages, which closes the activity of the Advanced Workshop of Cistermúsica Sacra 2025, we will explore the reading of each text by each composer, the result of their unique understanding and personal experience, as well as the society that surrounds them. The word remains, but when it is composed, it is filtered by the spirit of the time that lives it, by the people who express it and even by the expectations of those who hear it.
Continuity and change; how they are received and transformed in the invention of sacred music for choir over the centuries, in a comparative observation. This is the theme of this conference.
