The Music of the Word - Requiem for Camões

The Grupo Vocal Olisipo celebrates the fifth centenary of the birth of Camões in a symbiosis between his poetry and the music of the great composers of the "golden age" of Portuguese polyphonic music, represented here mainly by the Requiem Mass of Filipe de Magalhães. A few years ago we celebrated the 450th anniversary of Magalhães' birth and last year the 400th anniversary of his appointment as Master of the Chapel Royal. All these anniversaries make the choice of this Mass as a way of honoring Camões particularly appropriate. We hope that our collaboration with actress Joana Manuel will provide the audience with a unique experience, allowing them to appreciate these two high points of Portuguese artistic creation.
