The Sacred and Eternal programme offers a journey through sacred music, from the Romantic to the contemporary period, through the prism of choral music.
This concert will celebrate various European composers, from Franz Schubert to Giocchino Rossini, passing through northern Europe as well as the east, invoking composers such as Ola Gjeilo and Ēriks Ešenvalds.
The leitmotif of prayer and asking for salvation is constant throughout the programme, alluding to the troubled times the world is going through, in a joint desire for peace shared by the musicians and the audience.
Sacred and Eternal is therefore also a plea for peace and rest in eternity for all those affected by the conflicts in the world, through the beauty and redemption conveyed by music.
The Ensemble São Bernardo will be directed by conductor Nuno Margarido Lopes, performing pieces accompanied by the piano and a capella.
We would also like to highlight the presence of Gabriel Fauré's music in this concert, in the year that marks the centenary of his disappearance.
