Requiem – The only censorship that should exist is censoring censorship

TICKETS »

To celebrate half a century of a unique revolution that definitively established full democratic rule is to share in the courage and determination of all those who fought for freedom and democracy. The meaning of Requiem cries out for a just repose for those who are, and those who can be, permanently remembered. The mature Freedom, on the other hand, is tireless in its defence of the only censorship that should exist, which is to censor censorship. By appropriating Julião Sarmento's thoughts and also his disturbing imagery, and based on Lopes-Graça's Requiem and unpublished texts by Cláudia Lucas Chéu, Ondjaki and Elmano Sancho, bodies, movements, images and narrative clippings are visualized that reflect memories crossed in time and in the experiences of a past that finds echoes in the present and the future. Defending Freedom is also about telling stories that cross the boundaries between reality and fiction and where dance and video are positioned as vehicles for total free expression.
