Remembering what is alone - Coimbra and Freedom
Pianist and composer Carlos Filipe Cruz is tackling the topic of Coimbra's music in the context of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of 25 April 1974 with his new show Lembrança do que está só - Coimbra e a Liberdade (Remembering what is alone - Coimbra and Freedom). This is an eclectic proposal that brings together works from Carlos Paredes to José Afonso, ten years after the release of his solo album Coda.
“Revisiting a path related to Coimbra's music is a permanent rediscovery for me. Its contours of simplicity and creative freedom have always projected me into an imaginary that fuses traditional and classical music, translated into a performance punctuated by improvisation. A first contact with this music in my youth proposed a less structured approach which, over the years, has made me yearn for a more varied expression. Today, as I celebrate the passage of this music through the barriers of time, I reproduce the effect that all this has on me: the remembrance of what is alone.”
