The first place of worship that existed in Cela was completely in ruins when King Manuel I ordered a new church to be built on the same site, dedicated to St Andrew, now the Parish Church of Cela, which hosts Cistermúsica concerts. Little remains of this church's original construction and the last major reconstruction in 1909 left us with the 18th century Baroque gilded woodwork of the high altar, the 16th century baptismal font and the six animal-shaped gargoyles that line the sides of the church. The chancel is vaulted and the image of the patron saint St Andrew is placed on the altar.
